Adult Day Services

Community Inclusion through the Companion Program:
The purpose of this program is to provide community integration, community awareness and community exploration to individuals in culturally valued, age appropriate community activities. Recreational and leisure skills training are encouraged. Our goal is to foster and maximize independence levels. Our consumers learn to ride the city bus and venture to various community sites such as the UF campus, the public library, museums, city parks, restaurants, etc. Work training skills and Adult Basic Education classes are also offered

Skills:
Adult Day programs offer an opportunity for individuals to acquire and improve skills which will empower them to access activities and relationships of their choice. The Adult Day Training (ADT) program offers individuals opportunities for work, education, community integration, recreation and socialization. Our training staff works closely with individuals to foster independence and train them in skills needed for work in the community or our onsite workshop.

We have a variety of work contracts and are able to offer employees options in the type of work they do. We specialize in collating, packaging and assembly. Staff to consumer ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:10 depending on the consumer's needs and the activity. Ongoing training is provided by our staff and through Adult Basic Education classes. Services are available four to six hours per day.

Knowledge:
In order to increase the skills necessary for independence and develop each individual's unique gifts, we offer Adult Basic Education classes through the Alachua County School Board. Consumers can choose classes based on their interests or needs. Classes offered include cooking, math skills, reading and writing, safety, self-care skills, and arts and crafts. The goal of ABE is to provide consumers with the skills necessary for successful daily living.

Vocational Training:
Individuals have the opportunity to be vocationally trained through meaningful work and subsequently be competitively placed in our community. Individuals can choose from a variety of training sites which include: (click the link below to learn more)

The Arc's Residential Services:

The Arc's Residential Services Program consists of a wide range of services to meet the needs of the developmentally disabled, including 13 group homes, In Home Support Services, one 12 unit transitional living apartment complex, and supported living services for those living independently in the community. These programs feature 24 hour staffing (except Supported Living) and serve individuals with mild to severe disabilities. Examples of the services provided in these facilities include residential habilitation training (self-care and daily living skills), behavior management, and transportation.

The goal of The Arc's Residental Services Program is to serve all segments of the population with developmental disabilities, however, we are specialized in serving people with severe behavioral problems and Prader-Willi Syndrome.

Our admission policy is to serve anyone with approved funding for services. There is no waiting list for services as long as there is a funding source (Agency for Persons with Disabilities)  funding, Medicaid, private insurance, private pay, etc.).

The Arc's Supported Independent Living Program offers adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to choose where, how, and with whom they want to live. We assist people in establishing and maintaining their own homes in the community. We provide support in practical and familiar everyday activities such as shopping, cooking, personal care, banking, and socialization. Through supported living, individuals are able to lead everyday lives in the community.

The primary focus of the Supported Living Program is to support the individual's growth based on the individual's needs, choices, and capabilities. The program is tailored to accommodate the living standards of each participant in the program. A Supported Living Coach assists with living skills development. At least one Supported Living staff member is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.
